What's in a name?

Ta Da!

Château Fongrenier-Flamant is the new name for a centuries-old château, its’ vineyards and our emerging wines.

With history pointing to a château existing at Fongrenier earlier than the 16th century, it was one of the larger estates in the surrounding area. A future project of ours will be trying to trace more of the history of the chateau as there are no obvious signs of that original structure.

The new château was probably built as a maison de maître in the 18th century given its’ Palladian architectural style.

Its’ most recent history since the 1980’s was in the tenure of the Stuart family from Texas, US, and it became known as Château Fongrenier-Stuart.

Under that name the estate developed a number of award-winning wines and mentions in Le Guide Hachette des Vins.

Make sure you follow the right Fongrenier!

When we purchased the château we discovered one unfortunate side-effect of the previous renaming to Château Fongrenier-Stuart - another local vineyard had trademarked the Château Fongrenier name for their wine.

Although our château is still the true Château Fongrenier (our legal title address is simply Fongrenier, 24240 Razac de Saussignac!), we are unable to trade using that name. So as keeping the Stuart name references a past era, our new nest has now become Château Fongrenier-Flamant.

Why I hear you ask? Well as a child I was frequently called Flemingo, so it seemed a logical step to bring the château into the Flamant family on our arrival in France.

And if nothing else, it should work well with some interesting wines in the future. Cheers!
